No matter how often you drive or what kind of environment you drive in, your car will eventually need new tires. For most car owners, though, they may not be entirely sure when exactly it’s time to get replacements. That is why we’ve taken the time to create a helpful guide that points out the warning signs of when you should get new tires. Read on to learn more.

Signs Your Car Needs New Tires

It’s important that you check your tires regularly for wear and tear. Here are the most common warning signs that it may be time for new tires.

The treads are worn down.

Over time, the treads of the tires will become shallower and shallower. Your tire treads should never fall below 1/16 of an inch, and if you often drive on slick or wet surfaces, you will want double that depth. There are gauges available on the market that can help you measure treads, but you can also use a standard penny to test them. Insert the penny with Lincoln’s head pointing down in between the treads. If his entire head remains visible, then it’s time for new tires.

You notice vibrations and noises… on smooth roads.

For most cars, you will experience some vibration and noises while driving, which is normal. However, when your tires are worn down and damaged, the vibrations become more severe, and they also happen on smooth roads as well. This doesn’t always mean your tires are bad. It could also mean you have poor or unbalanced alignments. Regardless, it is still a good idea to consult an expert technician.

There are bulges and blisters in the tires.

Your car tires may develop bulges and blisters over a period of time, especially when driving on rough roads or if you hit a lot of potholes. These bulges are filled with air, and they can cause unexpected blowouts at any moment. Tire blisters should not be neglected, so make sure you take your car in for service as soon as you spot them.
